What is a Canon CR2 file?

CR2 ("Canon Raw version 2") was Canon's RAW format for roughly a decade, used by EOS DSLRs before the switch to CR3. It's based on the TIFF structure and stores the full sensor data from the shot. Tips for older CR2 files

• Watch the shadows. Older Canon sensors show more noise when shadows are lifted hard — raise Shadows moderately, or add a little Contrast to hide it.
• Rescue old flash photos. Indoor shots often have a warm cast; nudge Temp cooler and add a touch of Tint to neutralize it.
